GUIDE LINES FOR RESTORING

EXISTING SHOWERS &

                           VANITY TOPS.

For current home owners with existing cultured marble type products, restoration is possible in most cases.
A dull finish due to improper cleaning methods, or caused by a build up of minerals in the water, and wax in bar soap can be remedied.
The cure all for these conditions is a high speed buffer and some automotive rubbing compound.
I realize that not everybody has access to a buffer, or the mechanical ability to handle such an operation. However for those who do, this procedure speeds the restoration process up considerable.
Apply bar rubbing compound directly to the buffing pad. Paste and liquid rubbing compound can be brushed on or around with a clean inexpensive paint brush.
Begin buffing until the polished surface reappears.
Some scratches that can not be polished can be sanded with an ultra fine wet or dry sand paper.
(Caution) Some scratches go all the way through the gelcoat. If you can feel the scratch with a finger nail call a professional.
Use a small sanding block of wood with wet 600, 800, 1000, or 1200 grit sand paper.
Keep flat and sand using plenty of water.
The inside of the scratch can be marked with a black grease pen.
Use the mark as a guide when sanding. When the block sanding has removed the grease inside the scratch time to use the high speed buffer and rubbing compound to polish the sanding.
(Caution) to much sanding and or buffing can remove all the gelcoated surface exposing raw Cultured marble that will not polish. A professional may be able to repair, but not always.

For the AVERAGE HOME OWNER, I would start with the liquid
Gel-Gloss® and apply in a small area about one square foot. Try this application two or three times to see if there is significant improvement. If  the polished surface is coming back complete the whole area with the same number of passes.
If you don't get  results from this technique, apply some automotive rubbing compound by hand in a small area with a soft cloth. Same procedure as above.
